it’s about the energy and not the actual events

Looking at some photos of “windows” … I thought about Window Peeping and the real stories from NYC that inspired me to create this series of videos but … while the actual events are seductive and entertaining to say the least … I no longer live in NYC and these videos are not about the what I saw but about how I felt. I want to recreate the collective energy of the city and initiate a voyeur/exhibitionist "exchange of energy" through an intimate virtual connection with the audience.

about window peeping and the absolute creative space

I believe that because of how this particular story relates to my need of creating The Absolute Creative Space, this will be most likely the first NYC Story in the series. All the triggers and thoughts I’ve been exploring lately in my Creative Energy Workouts are somehow linked to this project.

about using an intention or path to follow

Today I made a major discovery during one of my morning Workouts and Recharging Session. While “reciting” the monologue I will use for my own Bare Character Study video, I found that for this study to work, using the monologues as a “mantra” might not be enough … that during the Bare Character connection exercise prior to the video, we might have to “focus” the driving energy by coming up with an “intention” - a path to follow - so the energy can drive the monologues and prevent getting stuck and having to resource to our brains for help. I will further explore this idea in open virtual rehearsals.

about new ways to go public

A lot has changed since the events that inspired the “Window Peeping” story took place. The Internet wasn’t around so the current venues for exhibitionism were not available just yet. I was thinking about the differences between letting someone in your world through a computer or phone camera and just opening the drapes in your apartment. Obviously, unless you limit your audience by going into a private chat room or connecting directly with someone, anonymity plays a big part in this. I was also thinking about the time when “live cams” came around - the kind when someone just had cameras on in their house all they long and you could just tuned in an watch them go about their lives. These were a one-way stream so, in my opinion, closer to the idea I’m exploring in Window Peeping where the person is not necessarily “putting on a show” but “sort of” living his/her life and just letting others “peep in”.

about gods and monsters

Thinking about the whole “gods and monsters” concept and how this might have been shaped by my catholic upbringing. In the original play (Becoming a Rose), a reference to “Incubus” was made in the “Dreams and Fantasies” scenes and, although the concept of how these - dreams and fantasies - are part of the “illusory world of theater”, I would like to explore further into how these “characters” are just “masks” that allow us to free ourselves in the theater.

about revisiting “becoming a rose”

Becoming a Rose was without a doubt an intimate and honest exposé of my personal and creative worlds. Every day since this virtual theater piece was streamed live a little over two years ago, I keep going back creatively or emotionally to a scene from the play. Revisiting this crucial moment in my personal and creative journey seems not only inevitable but also necessary.
